Biography

Jack Ma also known as Ma Yun, is the co-founder of Alibaba, the largest e-commerce company in China. Alibaba’s $150-billion IPO was the largest offering for a US-listed company in the New York Stock Exchange. 
He was born on October 15, 1964, in Hangzhou, China. (Tan, 2011) He is an English teacher before starting his life as an entrepreneur. Alibaba Group was established in 1999 under the leading of Ma. Alibaba Group’s first website is a global wholesale marketplace, English-language Alibaba.com. Taobao, a consumer e-commerce website like eBay and Amazon was launched in 2003 and become a very successful story in e-commerce market of China. After that, Alibaba established Aliwangwang, Taobao Mall, Alibaba Group R&D Institute, Alibaba Cloud Computing and others. Alibaba Group also acquired HiChina, UCWeb and ChinaVision.
Ma stepped down from CEO in 2013, but still holds position as executive chairman. Currently, Jack Ma serves on the board of SoftBank Corp. SoftBank Corp. is one of the major shareholders of Alibaba Group. He also holds the position as director of Huayi Brothers Media Corporation. Besides that, he also is the chair of The Nature Conservancy's China board of directors and a director of its global board of directors (Board of Directors).
